The Legend
Also known as "The eye of god that fell from the sky" or 天から降ってきた神の眼, Sardonyx is a rare variant of agate that is formed of alternating bands of sard and onyx.
Originating from Tibet, it quickly spread across the world due to its beauty and mesmerizing colors. Eventually, the stone made its way into Japan, where it has been used for ornaments, talismans, and medicines since ancient times. It is also believed to improve vitality, attract wealth, and repel misfortune.
Interestingly enough, the word for agate in Japanese is menou (瑪瑙) which came about as initial viewers of the mass of stone believed it looked like a horse's brain.
The Pendant
The AKATENGANSEKI pendant boasts a roughly 1.75 x 0.3 x 0.3 inch piece of the finest Sardonyx, acquired from the same mines that supplied and still supply Japanese jewelers today.
Like any of our accessories, each pendant is hand-cut at the forge and is completely unique in its coloration and pattern. The AKATENGANSEKI also comes with a custom bamboo box.
Gem Coloration
While each piece of Sardonyx will have a reddish appearance, these color patterns can range across multiple hues and concentrations based on the separate layers of sard and onyx. As such, each piece is completely unique in its design - no two pendants will be alike.
