The Legend
Launched in 1940, the Yamato (大和) was the largest battleship ever produced for the Imperial Japanese Navy. Displacing 72,800 tonnes at full load and accoutered with an incredible arsenal of nine 18.1 inch Type 94 main guns, she was one of the heaviest and most powerfully armed battleships ever constructed in the world.
From the time of her construction, Yamato carried an enormous significance in Japanese culture. She represented the very apex of the samurai war spirit, described as a "symbol of naval power that provided to officers and men alike a profound sense of confidence in their navy", even to the point where a commonly held belief among the populace was that the country could never fall so long as the ship was still capable of combat.
The Pendant
Our YAMATO 大和 pendant pays homage to the sheer power of the famed battleship, forged out of katana steel into the shape of an anchor and framed within a custom bamboo box.
Custom Engraving
Custom engraving is also available for those who wish to personalize their pendants to their tastes. Simply select the "custom engraving" option, and send us an image of your design and order number to info@hatanosen.com
Safety
As the smith does not mix chromium into the metal, your YAMATO pendant should be kept away from water. We have applied a layer of lacquer to give the pendant a measure of water resistance, but it is always better to be safe than sorry! As this layer will eventually wear off over the course of normal wear, it is highly recommended to replace it with a jewelry sealant (or an alternative) in a month or so to protect the finishing of the pendant and maintain its water resistance.
