The Legend
The Yamata no Orochi (八岐大蛇) is a legendary dragon from Japanese mythology. Possessed of 8 heads and 8 tails, this fearsome creature was eventually slain by the storm God Susa-no-O. So great and powerful was the Yamata no Orochi that Susa-no-O was forced to trick the dragon into first imbibing vast amounts of saké, only attacking once the monster had fallen into a deep drunken slumber.
When Susa-no-O had sliced Orochi up to its fourth tail, his sword shattered like glass. Upon examining the area of the tail which had ruined his sword, Susa-no-O discovered a shining weapon within the Orochi's flesh: the legendary katana Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi, which went on to become on to become one of the Three Sacred Treasures of Japan (三種の神器)
The Ring
Our YAMATA NO OROCHI ring takes inspiration from the scales of the great serpent and the katana that was found within its flesh, culminating in a band of katana steel that shines with a multitude of iridescent colors. The metal is skillfully twisted by our smith to form ridges reminiscent of dragon scales before being coated in an alloy of titanium, gold, and platinum to acquire its vibrant aesthetic.
Like the rest of our accessories, the YAMATA NO OROCHI is crafted entirely by hand, and comes with a custom bamboo box.

Your YAMATA NO OROCHI can be inscribed with any design you wish. If you have ordered a custom engraving, drop us an email at info@hatanosen.com with your order number and the design you want!
Stainless Option
If you so choose, you can request for the smith to add chromium into the steel he hand-crafts for your accessory (which will give it the stainless quality) for an added cost. Select "Yes" under the stainless variant to indicate your desire for this option.
It is highly recommended that you select the stainless option if you tend to have sweaty fingers, as sweat will potentially cause oxidization on the inner metal. For non-stainless variants, oxidization (if it occurs) can be managed with the use of a carbon steel eraser.
Care
As the finish on our Yamata ring is done through electroplating, it is important to note that constant or excessive physical friction will cause discoloration. We apply a layer of lacquer to the ring for initial protection, but it is highly recommended to replace this layer (both on the outside and inside of the ring) within a month or so using a jewelry sealant.
