The Legend
Author of what is referred to as "The First Novel", Murasaki Shibiku (紫式部) was a lady-in-waiting and extremely talented writer of the Heian era, known for her use of psychological aspects, consistency, and unique characterization in her works. Her magnum opus, "The Tale of Genji" is still described to this day as the "pinnacle of Japanese literature", and continues to serve as an inspiration for a multitude of authors worldwide.
"The Tale of Genji in particular is the highest pinnacle of Japanese literature. Even down to our day there has not been a piece of fiction to compare with it."
- Yasunaru Kawabata, Recipient of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1968
The Pen
Our MURASAKI fountain pen pays tribute to the illustrious female author, handmade by our smith with an intricate bamboo design to emulate the brushes used during Heian period. Crafted from the same katana steel that our accessories are known for, the body of the pen is coated in gold with the kanji for Murasaki engraved on the clip. While the MURASAKI is originally a fountain pen, you may opt to receive the pen with a ballpoint mechanism. We are also able to provide reduced sizes for individuals with smaller hands.
Unlike the rest of our accessories, the MURASAKI comes with a custom velvet lined box.
Custom Engraving
The MURASAKI can be engraved according to your request, which will replace the original kanji on the clip. Simply select the custom engraving option, and send the design you desire and your order number to info@hatanosen.com
