The Legend
A mainstay of Japanese craftsmanship, Kiridashi knives have long been used in ancient Japan to carve wood or bamboo. As the years have passed, many iterations of the traditional design have been created while still retaining the iconic sharp point and chisel grind edge. This unique yet efficient construction allows Kiridashi knives to be put to use in various other practical activities as gardening, splinter removal, cutting zip ties, cutting the cord, seam ripping, general cutting, self-defense, drilling and deburring holes.
The name ‘Kiridashi’ (切り出し) means ‘to carve out’ in Japanese.
The Knife
Following traditional designs, our KIRIDASHI knife features a sharp point and chisel grind edge. The 3 inch blade is hand crafted from folded high-carbon steel (katana steel) and comes coated in black atop a brass bolster and a rose wood handle of the same length.
Safety
In accordance with Shopify's regulations regarding the sale of weapons, it is important to note that the KIRIDASHI is NOT a weapon, but a utility knife. It can and should only be used for general purpose crafting activities such as opening packages, carving wood, and other miscellaneous tasks.
